Cars to Look out for in 2020
Here's a Definitive guide to exciting cars that are releasing at every price point. No intro... Lets dive right into it.
Under 5 Lakh.
The number of budget cars are few. None of the top end versions of these cars are likely to be under 5 lakh. But their prices start under 5 lakh. Remember that this trend continues for all other price brackets.
Tata Tiago
I'm excited for this car. I've always liked the Tiago and now there's a new one due early this year. Its going to get a facelift and will lose its diesel motor. The 1.2 petrol will become the mainstay then... I'm not complaining, the 1.0 l Diesel was a bit of a squib anyway.
Launch: Early 2020
Price: 4.3 lakhs
Maruti Celerio
The Celerio is due for a refresh after its launch in 2014, Its going to get the new heartec platform and the same 1.0l Petrol motor albeit in a different state of tune. I truly hope they freshen in up cos it looks very dull. I also hope they don't make an Espresso out of it. What an ugly car. It physically hurts me to look at it. The Espresso not the Celerio.
Launch: End 2020
Price: 4.2 Lakhs
5-10 lakhs
Hyundai i20
The Hyundai i20 will get a full model refresh with a new 1.0l turbo Petrol under the hood, alongside the 1.5 turbo diesel and the 1.2 petrol that was already used, but made to comply with BS6 norms. Expect to see many new features on the new Hyundai.
Launch: Mid 2020
Price: starts at 5.5 lakhs
Tata Altroz
Read my review of the New Tata Altroz here.
Datsun and Renault Compact SUV
A Vitara Brezza rivaling sub-4-meter compact SUV is in the works by Datsun. It will be based on the CMF-A platform which underpins the Renault Triber and the Yet-to-be-released Renault Compact SUV. Yes Its going to be another one of those Kwid vs Go stuff. theyre going to be the same car underneath the skin, with a 1.0 l Petrol from the Triber but with different clothing.
Launch: End 2020
Price: 6.5 Lakh
Kia Sonet
Kia is working on a sub-4-meter SUV based on the Hyundai venue but with a completely different look. It is reported to get the 1.0 L turbo petrol along with a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and a the BS6 compliant 1.5L Turbo diesel from the Seltos, but at a different state of tune.
Launch: Mid 2020
Price: 7.3 Lakhs
Honda City 2020
The New Honda City. It really is new. Does it have the same engines with the same CVT and the Manual? yes (I'm not complaining). Does it the same weedy tires? Yes (I am complaining). Does it seem fairly tinny like it's predecessors? Yes. So what's new? Not much. Its bigger. Much bigger. That's good. It looks different, almost a little mature in its design. Something I've never accused Honda's design team of being. Mature.
Launch: April 2020
Price: 10 Lakhs
MG ZS
A Creta rivaling SUV is on the cards for MG which seem to be doing well with their Hector. The Car will have a non-turbocharged version of the Hector's 1.5 Petrol which will produce around 120 HP, and a 1.3l turbocharged Petrol producing 157bhp. It looks loads better than the bit ungainly Hector. So yay(?).
Launch: April 2021
Price: 9.5 Lakh
10-20 Lakh
Mahindra Scorpio
OOOH! I'm Excited for this one. Its rumoured to get 2.2L Diesel and a 2.2 l Petrol good for 140 BHP and is going to stick to its Ladder-on-frame- Chassis. Its also going to have Much better Interiors and is going to share parts with the marazzo and the xuv300.
Launch: Mid-2020
Price: 10 Lakhs
VW T-Cross And Skoda Kamiq
A 5 seater with a 1.5 litre TSI motor and no diesel, SUV? Yup. The world is crazy. Anyway its likely to share a lot in common with the Skoda Kamiq and is also likely to share the MQB-AO-IN Platform.
Launch: End 2020
Price: 11 Lakh
Tata Buzzard
Stupid name. Ok with that out of the way, lets discuss what it really is... Its a seven seat version of the Harrier with a 170BHP 2.0l BS-6 Diesel. That's it.
Launch: Early 2020
Price: 18 Lakhs
MG Hector Six Seater
