The Goodwood Festival of Speed
The Festival of Speed
The 2018 Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard theme celebrated the event's 25th anniversary: "Festival of Speed - The Silver Jubilee". The first Festival, in June 1993, redefined what a car event could be, and, in the years since, it has firmly established itself as the world's greatest celebration of motorsport and car culture. This is a celebration of everything on wheels. Old or new, V8 or electric, F1 or rally, every motorsport, every category, every age, every size, every price range, its all here.
Festival of Speed |
Every petrolhead's mecca. We dream of setting up camp next to "malcolm bend" and watch the best of automobiles roar past my eyes. The rarest of cars. The setting is straight outta P.G. Wodehouse, lush green lawns, thick woods, beautiful. What is special is that they go for the whole classic vibe. They use bales of hay to keep cars away from the bends, no rumble strips, and certainly no model waving the checquered flag. This is English aristocracy at its best.
Amazing cars! back to back. (note look at that new GT-R, its still not released!) |
Although the track has remained virtually unchanged over the years, the cars have evolved to bring the fast, slow, legendary, and wierd. Here are some of my cars that stood out from last year's edition:
Singer Dynamics and Lightweight Study (DLS) 911
Singer Vehicle design in a joint venture with Williams advanced engineering (yes! the f1 Williams) developed another 911 "reimagined by Singer" vehicle that produces 500 bhp from a 4.0l, *pause* Naturally Aspirated, *pause* Air-Cooled, *pause* Flat six engine revving upto 9000 rpm. Wow! This is complemented by the wonderful interiors and spellbinding looks.
ROBORACE
People were singing praises of the futuristic ROBORACE making use of its electiric motors that churn out 500 BHP, did the course in a spellbinding time of 2 MINUTES. Wait a sec, that is not fast. AT ALL! YES! I am one of those guys.
