Petrol Attacks with POWER!

This is a no brainer... if you want power (as in horsepower) and high revving fun, you have to buy a petrol. Yes, naturally aspirated engines may not have the most delicious mid-range (2000-4000 rpm). But the sheer joy of bouncing off the rev limiter and listening to that engine scream! There is no replacement for displacement... Well there is... Turbo! A turbo-charged petrol engine offers the added advantage of a great mid-range and also gives you some amount of high revving fun!

Diesel engages an EFFICIENT Counter Attack...

Diesel engines are efficient... This is because, the fuel burns with more vigour and the cylinders only need to compress the fuel a lot less. The great mid-range due to the turbo, and tractability at all revs make this a perfect choice for the city slicker and the practical man. Diesel's are also known to be easier to maintain in the long run as they have a sturdier construction owing to the fact that they have a sturdier construction. This is not completely true as all modern engines have aluminium construction because of the weight advantage.

Both sides take a Hit...

Petrol engines can never be as efficient as a diesel engine of similar displacement. But diesel engines don't get off the line the quickest...

Petrol engined vehicles are cheaper to buy, because of the relatively simple technology and lower need for insulation. Diesel engines however have the advantage in the longer run as the fuel is cheaper and more efficient.

Lastly, diesel engines are heavy, very heavy, but they tend to mask their weight due to the torque on offer, which means that diesel cars usually have more of what you would call "pulling". On the other hand, are where diesels tend to be less refined and tend to be a bit coarse due to the relatively loud and powerful strokes.
