Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon

Tata are on the transformation highway. Every car that they have launched in the last 5 years look and feel more premium compared to the cars they had been selling. The man behind this Tata Rennaisance? The head of design, Pratap Bose. The latest car he designed is the all new Nexon. Marketing at 7.26 lakhs (on road - mumbai) for the base petrol to 12.77 lakhs for the top diesel, this car offers excellent value for the features it provides. Lets take a closer look...

All show...

I haven't seen such an extravagantly, designed car in quite a while. The metal, the plastic, the ceramic all sound like something that would end in disaster... but Tata have somehow pulled it off. It looks interesting and extravagant but is something the roads in India needs. A bit of pizzaz...

The interiors are a lot more restrained, but by no means boring. The interesting metallic inserts and the well placed touchscreen add to the ambience. The pastic quality is good, but the panels are not perfectly put together, resulting in a number of odd panel gaps.

Overall space in the cabin is great, but the rear seat is not the most comfortable. I wouldn't mind a bit more boot space, because the high loading lip and narrow cabin don't do justice to the suggested 350 l of boot space.

Some Go

The 1.5 diesel with 110 bhp has a linear power delivery, but is not the most exciting power unit. Overall refinement is good, but for pure driving thrills and involvement you would be better off with the Ford Ecosport. Engine refinement is good and efficiency figures are aggreable. Don't get me wrong, the engine is good, but not anything worth mentioning. As for the petrol... hmm... good? No. Bad? Not really no. Its just not special or worth remembering. It will get the job done, without any fuss or thrill.

Handling is not great, but Ride Quality is right up there with the best. It sails over even the largest of potholes and has a great feel of stability when on the highway.

Note worthy

Look out for the top XZ versions which you should get for under 10 lakhs. They are loaded with features and look much better that the price suggests. This is the version you should buy, if you plan to buy a Nexon.
