Who would buy one?

The letters "GT" obviously suggest that this car is made for people who enjoy living on the wrong side of the speed limit. However, the Polo is also a great city car due to its quick 7 speed DSG and relatively compact dimensions. So, the urban commuter and the hardworking mother wiill also find plenty to like in this jewel of the car.

The Good

  1. 1.2 litre TSI motor produces a delicious 103 BHP, which combined with the quick shifting DSG means that this car has plenty of thrills to offer.
  2. When driven with a light foot, the 7 speed DSG can play the "efficiency card" which leads to a surprisingly good fuel efficiency figures of 17 Km/l when driven with a light foot.
  3. Beautiful steeering and tight handling means that this Polo can light up the Ghat road.
  4. Amazing build quality is a given in this truly "german" car. There are also great safety features that will keep you and your family safe.
  5. Packed to the gills with features such as Cruise control, Automatic rain sensing vipers, Automatic headlamps, Climate Control, touch screen, and a whole lot more!

The Bad

  1. Back seat: Please note! The Polo offers very liitle to the chauffeur driven as there is very little space in all directions. What does not help is the fact that there is a very large transmission tunnel to deal with making it worse for the fifth passenger.
  2. Pricy! This is NOT a cheap car by any standards. It cost at least 1 lakh more than any of its direct competitiors.
  3. Spares! This is not a cheap car to maintain. This added to a mediocre service experience makes the yearly service an ordeal.

The Verdict

The Polo GT TSI is quite a unique proposition. A car you would never regret buying, if you are a petrolhead. But for the daily commuter you would be much better of with the cheaper (read more Value for Money) Baleno CVT which is more spacious and practical. However nothing on the market gives you this much zing (with the possible exeption of Abarth Punto).
