Jacked up Figo? Think again. This car may have the Figo's headlights, and taillight and door and... the Freestyle is so much more than the sum of its parts. It has a whole different feel to it. Ford really work hard to make sure that their models and facelift’s are actually different from what the other products they offer, unlike Honda and Mahindra who are more than willing to sell the same car with 4 different badges.

A look inside

Step into the Freestyle if you are not convinced that this is so much than a Figo. The sync 3 infotainment system more than makes up for their late arrival to the league of extraordinary infotainment systems. This system is the complete package. It has every feature you can cram into a 6.5 inch screen. Apple car play, Android auto, everything. It’s not just the infotainment screen, the quality of the dashboard, the surfaces, the design, the execution everything is top notch.

What drives it?

A dragon! Ha ha ha... not funny? Well I tried. This Petrol engine really is a fire breather. Responsive, power and has a lusty top end that will drive car enthusiasts nuts. And no turbo means that the fuel efficiency will not take a hit if you are driving with a heavy foot. The diesel is responsive and the headline 100 bhp will please leave a seasoned racing driver smiling. The engines are also pretty efficient. One of my friends took a picture of his Figo aspire (which has the same engine) doing 42 km to the litre. 42! They may not be the most free revving but can be enjoyed by everyone.

The ride and handling is worth a lot of praise because the freestyle can soak up bumps like a sponge (still not funny?) and can light up a Ghat road with its incredible ride and handling balance. This was Ford's shot at redemption after messing with the Aspire has been successful, to say the least.

Things to note

Safety: 6 airbags, active rollover protection, traction control, ESC! Your family is safe... nuff said.

Colours: Make sure you spec your car just right. Don't go for the white. Buy the gray one. Looks good.

Variant: You wouldn’t be starved off features no matter which variant you buy. But I would advice you to go for the mid spec Petrol titanium (not +)which markets at 6.39 lakhs. Bang for your buck and all the equipment you would need or want.

Things to ponder

Space: the freestyle isn't particularly spacious.

The name: freestyle? I do not like it. Ford needs to fire the person who has been naming their recent cars. Bring back the dude who named the ikon and the escort and the fusion. Hope you are listening ford.
